COSATU PROTEST ACTION

Dear Employer

As you may be aware COSATU has given notice that its members will be embarking on protest action on 27 September 2017.

Even though protest action does not fall within the definition of a strike, such action is protected by the Labour Relations Act. Therefore, employees who wish to participate in the protest action may not be disciplined for doing so. The rule of no work, no pay will however apply and employees who participate in the protest action will not receive remuneration for the day.

In the event of employees being absent for a different reason on the day, each case will have to be dealt with on its merits.
