COVID-19 LOCKDOWN – ALERT LEVEL 3
THE PRESIDENT’s ANNOUNCEMENT IN PERSPECTIVE
by Gerhard Papenfus
Last night, the President announced the downgrading of the lockdown to Alert Level 3.
This can be compared to a person receiving a 20 year jail sentence for a crime he did not commit. After spending 15 years in jail, and after having lost everything that is dear to him, he receives notice that the sentence has been commuted and that he will be released on parole. At that moment he will receive the message with gratitude, but it won’t be long before the reality, that it should not have happened in the first place, sets in.
The world is starting to wake up to the reality that the global lockdown of economies was a mistake of disastrous proportions. There is overwhelming medical and scientific evidence, that even a layman can understand, that locking down economies in order to defend the peoples of the world against this virus, was a catastrophic delusion.
The President’s notion that we will have to live under the shadow of this Covid-19 for some time to come, or at least until a vaccine becomes available, is rejected with contempt. Our God-created bodies are able to defend themselves against this virus; as it successfully did against previous and future viruses. This whole notion of certain ridiculous defences and behaviour demanded from us to prevent the so-called spread of the virus, opens the door to suspect ulterior motives.
The President’s lengthy announcement last night must be viewed against the backdrop of his own remarks that the Covid-19 ‘pandemic’ “quite frankly” gave South Africa an opportunity to reconstruct the economy to ensure Radical Economic Transformation which “must underpin the economic future”. Exactly how this will play out, only time will tell.
At least, from 1 June 2020, you can go for a walk at a time of your own choosing.
