The employer parties to the MEIBC, on 15 June 2017, presented a consolidated employer position to the trade union parties to the Council. The trade unions all rejected the offer and demands from the employers and declared a dispute against all the employer parties.
NEASA has in turn declared a counter dispute against all the trade union parties to the Council. The dispute will now be processed in terms of the Council’s constitution and will be dealt with by the management committee which will meet as soon as possible.
Should the parties fail to resolve the dispute it is likely that the union parties will embark on industrial action, possibly as soon as 1 July 2017.
