A MUST READ (Part 5): Why the so-called "consolidated main agreement" should not be extended to non-parties - 90% of employers in the Steel Industry.

Dear Steel Industry employer

What follows is another letter by a Steel Industry employer to the Minister of Employment and Labour.

Letter by employer:

I hereby wish to make representation to the Minister with regards to the extension to non-parties by the Metal Industries Bargaining Council of their main agreement.

We are a small business operating in the Free State. It is impossible for us to pay the wage tariffs expected by the agreement. This would mean we would need to close shop. Our clients would not be able to, nor would they be prepared to cover these exorbitant additional costs in a country that is already feeling the financial pinch and by community members whose income has been seriously eroded in the current economic times. We lose clients continuously as many of them are leaving the country and many more have in turn been retrenched and are unable to continue their sport of sailing due to inefficient income.

Ours is a small industry far removed from the Metal Industry. We deal with predominantly XXXX XXXXXXXX and yet are classified under the Metal Industry as XXXXXXXX. We do not manufacture but repair and maintain XXXXX for our clients.

Through our related Governing body, XXXXXXXXX,  we assist people wishing to enter the XXXXXXX world and play a big part in broadening and providing the accessibility of XXXXX to many people in our country in conjunction with the department of sport and recreation.

Sadly, the upshot of this would be that many more individuals will ultimately become unemployed and in turn a greater burden on society with the far reaching effects of unemployment, lack of access to education, services and the ability to be able to provide for their families.
