EXEMPTION APPLICATIONS
NOT BUSINESS AS USUAL
Dear Steel Industry employer
The recent extension of the employer-hostile MEIBC Consolidated Main Agreement (the ‘Agreement’) has sent shockwaves through the Industry.
There is no doubt that the extension of this Agreement will severely impact the sustainability and profitability of thousands of employers in the Sector and will threaten the security of employment for many employees.
Thousands of employers will have to apply for exemption in order to ride out this storm. In order to cater for potential exemption appeal processes and possibly Labour Court reviews in respect of each exemption application, special care will have to be applied to each application; every application will have to be tailor-made to the specific needs of each company.
Consequently, and as a result of the expected volumes, NEASA has decided to centrally coordinate this project.
