MEIBC: Expiry of administration- and dispute resolution agreements.
MEIBC
EXPIRY OF ADMINISTRATION- AND DISPUTE RESOLUTION AGREEMENTS
Dear Steel Industry employer
The Administration- and Dispute Resolution Agreements of the Metal and Engineering Industries Bargaining Council (MEIBC) compel all employers within the scope of the MEIBC to contribute levies and to deduct and pay over an equal contribution from their employees.
However, the period of operation of these agreements is set to expire on 31 March 2025.
NUMSA has filed an application with the Department of Employment and Labour to extend these agreements for a further 12 months on the current terms and conditions.
However, it is highly doubtful that the extension will be gazetted prior to the expiration date of 31 March 2025.
Therefore, employers are not legally permitted to make any deductions or obligated to make any contributions in respect of Administration or Dispute levies from 31 March 2025 until the date of re-extension of the agreements.
We will keep members abreast of any developments in this regard.
