New Minimum Wage For Farmworkers
FARM WORKER SECTOR
WAGE INCREASE
Dear Employer
Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant has announced an increased minimum wage for farmworkers with effect from 1 March 2016.
As at 1 March 2016, the minimum wages will be adjusted as follows:
Hourly rate: R 14.25
Weekly rate: R 641.32
Monthly rate: R 2778.83
A daily wage for a farm worker who works nine hours per day is R 128.26.
Sectoral Determination 13: Farm Worker Sector applies to all workers on a farm including domestic workers and security guards.
Farmers who cannot afford to pay these wages may apply for ministerial variations in terms of Section 50 of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, which makes provision for the Minister to replace or exclude any basic condition of employment provided for in the Act.
