Steel Industry: Flat-rolled products: oppose steel import duties
STEEL INDUSTRY
FLAT-ROLLED PRODUCTS
OPPOSE STEEL IMPORT DUTIES
Dear Steel Industry employer
The International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) is proposing far-reaching and possibly industry-destroying anti-dumping duties in excess of 55% on certain flat-rolled products being imported from China, Japan and Taiwan.
Interim relief came on 20 February 2025 for companies in the South African steel downstream, when ITAC published its preliminary report and determination, indicating that it will not be implementing provisional duties on certain flat-rolled steel products.
However, its investigation into the alleged dumping practices is continuing and it will make its final determination, on implementing anti-dumping duties or not, upon the completion of this investigation.
It is imperative for each and every importer, supplier, merchant and manufacturer to make individual submissions on these proposed duties in order to either prevent the imposing thereof, in its entirety, or to reduce the proposed rate in respect of individual businesses.
NEASA therefore calls on every steel employer to contact their own importers and merchants and implore them to also oppose the duties in their individual capacity.
Any submissions and/or comments regarding the proposed duties must be sent to ITAC before 5 March 2025, by emailing submissions/comments to emkwanazi@itac.org.za; pchuma@itac.org.za, pmabona@itac.org.za or amathada@itac.org.za
Employers are also requested to complete this form in support of NEASA’s general opposition against the duties.
