Below is another testimony from one of our members
Dear Gerhard
Adding to the views of previous companies, and now finally admitted by them, Mittal cannot supply the local market, yet they are requesting import duties.
They have also just announced yet another increase from the 1st of October 2020, after they have already put an increase through on the 1st of September 2020 and now they have closed their order book for the year.
Their audacity of them to claim a force majeure (unforeseen) event on the breakdown at their Newcastle plant is simply hysterical. As far as logic goes, and in my humble opinion, maintenance is not an unforeseen event in my humble opinion. We also found that the quality of materials received by Mittal lately is horrible.
We are currently working on a project and was supplied with Mittal CERTIFIED materials (channels 120×55 RSC) of which we now have to replace the material and labour on the work as the CERTIFIED material was full of cracks and defects.
Therefore, buying from local Mittal puts us at risk of huge financial losses due to replacement of material and labour. We would much rather use material from overseas that still adhere to proper quality standards and that we, with a clean conscience, can offer to our clients.
Mittal is outdated and should rather sell their plants to someone who has the best interest of our local industry at heart.
Regards
We are all in this together.
