STEEL INDUSTRY

HOW TO ESCAPE THE Seifsa/Numsa STRANGLEHOLD ON THE INDUSTRY

This is directed at the 10 percent of employers still bound by the Seifsa/Numsa-agreement.

In a communique on Monday, 16 March 2020, we urged Steel Industry businesses (who cannot afford the R11 500 ctc pm minimum wage for an unskilled entry level employee), to resign from the applicable Seifsa-affiliated organisation. Click here to view communique.

In view of the above, and following requests to that effect, we hereby publish (click here to view) a list of Seifsa-affiliated employers’ organisations.

Seifsa-affiliated employers are bound to the current Seifsa/Numsa-agreement until June 2020. As from July 2020 an even more draconic agreement will be applicable on employers who are still affiliated to Seifsa when a new agreement is signed.

How do you escape?

Ascertain what the relevant procedure and notice period of the particular organisation are (of which you are a member) and resign timeously (click here for assistance).

What will happen when you resign? Merely this:

  • you will become part of the 90 percent of employers in the Steel Industry who determine the wages they can afford; and
  • you will avoid committing economic suicide, especially if you are an SMME.

Regards

We are all in this together.
