Zimbabwean Exemption Permits (ZEPs) extended.
Zimbabwean Exemption Permits (ZEPs)
EXTENDED
Dear employer
On 29 November 2024, the Minster of Home Affairs gazetted a notice extending the validity period of Zimbabwean Exemption Permits (“ZEPs”) for a further 12 months until 28 November 2025.
This is as a result of the Minister reactivating the Immigration Advisory Board who will see to engaging in consultations with ZEP affected parties as per the High Court order.
All existing ZEPs shall therefore be deemed to be valid for the next (12) twelve months and holders will be allowed to remain and be employed in South Africa.
Additionally, according to this notice, no ZEP holder should be required to produce a valid exemption certificate, visa or an authorisation letter to remain in South Africa when making an application for any category of the visa for temporary sojourn in the Republic.
Current ZEP holders who have already applied for waivers and for other mainstream visas will also be allowed to remain and be employed in South Africa, until they receive the outcome of their applications
Employers and ZEP holders who have not submitted any applications yet, are encouraged to consult with an Immigration Specialist in order to determine which permit or visa is most suitable for them and/or their employees in order to comply with immigration laws.
